Sorry it took me so long to post about my adventures this weekend but I'm still recovering.
Ok, firstly Friday night was really cool. The Beach Boys were a lot of fun...I 3000% sure that Mike Love was not singing at all but I'm fairly certain, the voice we heard through the sound system was at one point his. He gave a warning to all those starting bands...don't write songs you don't think you'll be able to sing in 40 years. True dat. Anyway, before The Beach Boys this amazing Bluegrass band played called No Speed Limit. I loved them and anyone who even knows me a little bit knows that I dislike country music a lot. So during one of their songs then Gov-elect Tim Kaine gets up and starts
playing harmonica perfectly. It was a really cool moment. I've always liked him but this definitely pushed him toward the top of my all time favorite politicians. Close behind were Patrick Henry & Thomas Jefferson whose likenesses were found dancing on stage to Barbara Ann along with the Beach Boys.
After the concert Will and I combined our talents for meeting famous folk and wormed our way to the front to meet the Governor. He greeted Will by name which was really cool and impressive. I was proud of my brother.
The next day I chose to skip the actual inaugural ceremony in lieu of sleep, getting my hair done and shopping with Natalie. Smart move considering that it rained much of the time. Anyway, this was the first time a governor was inaugurated in Williamsburg since Thomas Jefferson in 1779.
Saturday evening I went with Will to a fancy dinner given by his boss in Richmond. It was fancy but laid back which is totally my style. Afterward we went on to the ball, meeting Sarah & Seth. Four years ago I went with Will to the ball for Gov. Mark Warner. We had to wait like 45 minutes in line for a drink and never saw food at all. This year things were much more organized. Lots of alcohol and fun. We rubbed elbows with governors, senators, congress people...though not a rock star in sight.
After the ball we went to a midnight brunch where we met Mrs. Kaine who said she liked my dress a lot. We also got our inaugural presents there which in truth is why I go to that stuff anyway as I love presents.
Sunday, I drove back home after about 4.5 hours sleep. Naptime. Then I drove to DC to visit with Jeremy & Lindsay. I love my brother dearly but he is no Rand McNally and I got way lost. Badly lost. Finally, I called Chris who knew that I could figure out where I was according to which mall I was closest. He was right. That night we watched season five of Sex & The City and then Lindsay and I went shopping the next day.
Fun weekend! Busy, exhausting but tons of fun.
